St John is too small and mountainous to have an airport.  The larger neighboring island of St Thomas  is the most practical air destination for most guests.  The St Thomas airport (STT) has jet service daily from New York, Philadelphia, Charlotte, Miami, Dallas, Chicago, and some other cities.

St John is reached from St Thomas by ferry.  A guest has two basic choices:

1.  Use the "Westin Breeze" ferry operated by the Westin.   This is a large, beautiful and modern motor launch with both open air and air conditioned areas for seating.  The crew will offer you cool bottles of water and often will also offer cool damp cloths for you to wipe the travel grime off your hands and face.   With this option you will be able to check into the Westin at their St Thomas airport office which is located in baggage claim.  Once you hand them your baggage the next time you see the bags will be when they are delivered to your villa shortly after your arrival.  The Westin will take you by taxi to the marina where you will board the Westin Breeze and take a 45-minute ride to the Westin Resort dock.   You will be greeted there with some tropical punch and whisked off to your villa.   There is a charge for this service, but it includes the ferry, taxi ride and all tips except for anything you may wish to add when your bags are delivered to your villa.  As our guest you will receive a discounted fare.   The price also includes unlimited trips back and forth to St Thomas for shopping or sightseeing.   We recommend this option as the most comfortable and "hassle free" way to get there and the price is not much more than option 2 below.

2.  Take a public ferry.  Collect your baggage at the St Thomas airport and take a taxi to either the Charlotte Amalie waterfront or the Red Hook ferry dock.  The taxi ride to Charlotte Amalie is about 15 minutes and the ferry ride from there to the Cruz Bay ferry dock in St John is about 45 minutes.  The taxi ride to Red Hook is 30-45 minutes over hilly, curvy roads, but the ferry ride is only 15 minutes to St John.  The public ferries are charging a fuel surcharge and a baggage handling fee per bag these days.  Upon reaching the Cruz Bay dock you will transfer to a taxi for a short ride to the St John Westin Resort.  Check in at the main lobby and a bellman will take you and your luggage to the villa.  If you are renting a car on St John, you can usually arrange to be met at the ferry.  Click on this link to get public ferry schedules.
